Don’t want to go on and on about the show but….
Everyone loves Reeling In The Years from the 60’s and 70’s, they are great for putting images to stories we have all heard.but it’s only really when you watch the late 80’s and 90’s that depict the events you can remember living through that you realise how good it really is. The memories it brings back. I watched the 1990 episode and I got a lump in my throat during the clip below.
I remember Euro ‘88 well, Ireland had plenty of support than. Beating England didn’t hurt. But the level of public support in 1990 was unprecedented. The country just stopped when there was a game on. Completely stopped.
To any Irish person old enough to remember the tournament, Timotei is not a shampoo, he’s a dickhead.
The nation holds it’s breath…
And of course any thought of World Cup ‘90 is framed by Pavarotti and Nessun Dorma. A legend.
