Was out in Paramatta Stadium on Monday evening for Ireland’s opening game of the RLWC.
Absolute cracker. Nobody expected much from the Irish(14 brits and an aussie) but they were in it until the end. Granted the tongans helped them with repeated free kicks but the Irish did well to cross the line 4 times.
Crowd of over 6,000 turned up, mostly Tongans. Bit surprised with all the Irish backpackers around, that there wasn’t a bigger Irish crowd. Probably a good thing actually, there was only 1 bar open.
Next up on Friday is Tonga Vs Samoa on Friday night. If Tonga win that, the Irish are out. We need the Samoans to win on Friday, and than beat them, by 3 points more than they beat Tonga, on Monday night.
Yes it’s a long shot.
